St George Utah - Wilma Mills Kinzie, age 96, passed away 22 October 2022.
Wilma was born 11 July 1926 in Hood River, Oregon to Edna Mills & Walter Wood.
Wilma was raised on a vegetable farm near The Dalles Oregon which her father managed. With her 8 siblings she helped harvest and pack vegetables for shipment. She always loved fresh vegetables. There was never a lack of food, but money for other things was tight.
She met Darrell, her future husband, at a church dance. She also worked as a volunteer candy striper at a hospital for a time and dreamed of someday becoming a nurse.
She married Darrell Vernon Kinzie on 9 August 1944 in Odell, Oregon while he was serving in the US Navy. She moved with him to Corpus Cristy Texas where he served. While there they lived through a severe hurricane. After the war they returned to Odell and had two children. About two years later they saw opportunity and moved to Campbell California, where they had their third child and lived for 40 years. Here they were introduced to, and joined, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Her interests included cooking and family history research.
Wilma and Darrell served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Southern Utah starting in 1986. Their daughter Wanda was killed in a traffic accident while they were serving. St. George Utah impressed them so much while serving there that they decided to move there shortly after their mission.
She is survived by two of her children, sons Jim and David. She had 8 siblings and was the last one living. She has 12 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren.
Interment will take place at Tonaquint Cemetery in St. George.
