William George Kretschmer of Fernley, NV, passed away on November 30th in St. George, UT peacefully with his wife at his side.
William (Bill), fondly called "Billy George" by his mother, was the first baby born in the burgeoning mining camp of Rio Tinto near Elko on August 14th, 1936 to parents William and Jessie Kretschmer. He was a compassionate husband and father that enjoyed most being surrounded by his family, actively participating in his children's activities coaching teams and leading scouting among many others. He loved nothing more than to be around horses and all things outdoors and ranching, taking every moment to expose his family to those passions. He was a kind, compassionate, and gentle man, always a soft spot in his heart for both people and animals in need, taking on the most troubled horses and abandoned dogs along the way that nobody else wanted. He was highly respected in his community for the quality of his character, his work ethic, and his true caring nature.
William was preceded in death by his father William, his mother Jessie, his sister Arlene, his son Dean, and his son Ken. He is survived by his wife Gayle, daughter Tammy, and son Roy.
William's family will hold services at 11am Saturday, December 10th at the Elks lodge in Tonopah, NV. Following graveside services, a reception will be hosted at the Elks Lodge.
