It is with great sadness that the family of Velta L. Scott, 76, announces her passing on Thursday, June 14, 2018 at Circle of Life Hospice House in Bentonville, Arkansas. She was born January 23, 1942 in Hatch, Utah. She had a long career as a correctional officer and enjoyed it immensely until her retirement in 2002. She received many awards along the way including being the first women to earn the high honor of the Roger B. Jones County Corrections Award for the state of Utah.
Velta was a life long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and enjoyed her many callings and serving others.
She is survived by her 4 daughters; Vaelyn Mackelprang, Verene LaCori, Verla (Jeremy) Shafman, and Vaneta (Jeffrey) Hibdon, 12 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents Karl & Reva Lowder, brother Rell Lowder, sister Karleta Riggs, eternal husband Seth Lott, grandson Chad S. Mackelprang, and great grandson Aries James Perez.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Hughes Mortuary. A viewing will be held on Thursday June 21, 2018 at Hughes Mortuary in St. George from 6:00-7:30 pm. Funeral Services will be held Friday, June 22, 2018 at 1:00 in the Coal Creek 2nd Ward, 290 W. 1045 N. Cedar City, UT. with a viewing prior starting at 11:00 am. Graveside services will follow immediately at the Cedar City Cemetery.
