Vee Deliverence Wilson, 84, passed away Friday, January 31, in Hurricane, UT due to complications with Parkinson’s Disease. Vee was born June 25, 1940 in Hatch Utah to Alvin Deliverence Wilson and Lucy Viola Jones Wilson.
After graduation, Vee attended Snow College and served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Southern California area, with Hollywood being the subject of most of his mission stories. In 1963, he enlisted in the Army Reserves Airborne Division. He had many stories of jumping out of a perfectly good plane and the tyrannical drill sergeants.
In this same year he met and married the lovely and compassionate Carolyn Jarvis. Together they had 4 children, Darrell, Dana, Tylie Verleen and Carla.
He graduated college and earned his Master’s Degree, from UNLV, at a very young age. In the late 1960’s, he tragically lost Carolyn in a car accident.
In 1969 Vee met and married the woman who would be by his side for the rest of his life, Nina Margaret Greene (Peggy). Peggy had two boys of her own, Rick and Rob Fry and in 1971 they added one more, Kristine.
Vee was very accomplished in his career of education and administration within the Clark County School District. In 1991 Vee won the coveted Milken Educators Award. Once he retired from the school district, he started Odyssey, the first charter school in Nevada. He recently told one of his nurses, “That was the hardest thing I ever did”.
As accomplished as he was in his career, religion was his measuring stick and compass, and remained the center of his life. Vee was in church leadership all of his adult life. He had a quiet passion for the scriptures and our Heavenly Father and lived each day with them on his mind and in his heart. Vee and Peggy later served together in the Slidell, LA mission.
When he was younger, Vee enjoyed swimming, basketball, pottery, and westerns. Later in life, he picked up golf and vastly improved his horseshoe game - winning the partner’s gold at the Senior Olympics. He still occasionally did pottery, liked his westerns, and loved watching the Jazz.
Vee was a gentle, humble, soft spoken, giant who loved his Heavenly Father, family, and friends. He unknowingly touched the lives of countless people, just by being himself. He is already deeply missed.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy of St. George, his 7 children, Rick (Kelly) of Farmington, Darrell (Cheryl) of Cedar City, Rob (Marycruz) of Tucson, Dana (Marvin) of Logan, Tylie (Craig) of St. George, Carla (Robert) of Reno, & Kristine (Bret) of South Jordan, 22 grandkids,
29 great grandkids, his brothers: Bryce, Morley, Gene, Gerald, and sister Izola Olsen. Vee was greeted in heaven by his parents, Alvin & Lucy and his first wife, Carolyn.
