Traude Wurster Davis

September 13, 1945 — November 23, 2023

St. George, UT

Traude Wurster Davis (78) of St. George, UT, passed peacefully on Thanksgiving morning, in her home, surrounded by her daughters and her husband. Traude was born 1945 in Stuttgart Germany. Although she spoke not a word of English, she bravely immigrated to the US on May 28, 1957, with her parents, Erwin & Charlotte (“Lotte”) Wurster, and her sister, Christel, where they settled in Salt Lake City, UT. She graduated from Highland High School in 1963 and, shortly thereafter, met and married the love of her life, Donald Davis, to whom she was happily married for 58 wonderful years. She was a profoundly caring woman who was deeply devoted to her family and her friends. She had an uncanny ability to reach people in a deep and positive way, and everyone had a different and uniquely special relationship with her. She was a wonderful mother & grandmother who was always there to support her family when they needed her. She was always the care taker and was constantly asking after every member of her family. She took immense pride in making sure that everyone was well cared for. And well fed! Regardless of whether she was nearby or far away, she would always call to check in on people, to make sure they weren’t too stressed or taking life too seriously, or even just to ask what was for dinner! She found tremendous joy in the years she spent helping children in her work as a special ed teacher. She treasured the simple pleasures of life, like chatting with friends and spending time with her family. Though she was never one to crack jokes, she had a great sense of humor and was a good sport for the good-natured jibes that were the lifelong trademark of her husband and children. She loved the California Coast and going to the beach but, ironically, hated the sun (a more “covered up” beach goer there never was)! She hated a messy house, hypocritical behavior, and being the focus of attention(though not necessarily in that order)! She always sacrificed to make sure those she loved didn’t have to. Her caring nature blessed her with many friends, with whom she remained in contact across her life, even when she moved away. She loved animals; dogs, cats and, strangely enough, had a special affinity for moose! (Pictures, carvings and figurines of moose could be found throughout her home). She was an amazing cook and she loved to craft & crochet. All of her children, grand and great grandchildren have a blanket or handmade item to remember her by. She will be greatly missed. We will treasure her memory, and we take comfort in the knowledge that she is now at rest and reunited with those who preceded into the next life, including her Oma, whom she missed her entire life. Traude is survived by her beloved husband, Don, whom she cherished, her sister, Christel, and her children Trina (Scott) Ward, Mark (Jennifer) Davis and Danielle Davis, her 9 grandchildren (Matthew, Jessika, Justin, Garrett, Ashleigh, Samuel, Joshua, Elizabeth & Andrew) and her 4 great grandchildren (Emmie, Sienna, Wesley & Bethany).
