Shane Phillip Starley

March 28, 1972 — April 3, 2025

St. George, UT

Shane Phillip Starley, 53, passed away on Thursday April 3rd, 2025.

Shane was born March 28th, 1972, in Granger, UT to Dianna Kae Robison Starley and Phillip Ward Starley. He was the firstborn son of his parents and the eldest to 5 younger siblings, Tamlyn, Treo, Michele, Sheena, and TJ. Shane married Jodi Marie Starley on May 4th, 1996, in Sandy, UT. At the age of 30, Shane and Jodi were blessed with their first son, Brock, on March 15, 2002. They were again blessed with a second son, Brexten, on July 6, 2004.

Shane was raised in Fillmore, Utah where he learned the foundation of hard work and responsibility. He enjoyed working on the farm, raising and riding horses, and spent his free time hunting, fishing, boating, and exploring the outdoors. Shane graduated from Millard High School in 1990 where he excelled in football and was an All-State running back. The passion and work ethic he showed in sports was passed down to his boys and many others around them. Not too long after graduating high school, Shane was called to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Shane served in the Ukraine and Russia mission where he learned to speak both languages. Shane truly loved the people and families he met in Russia and his experience had a great impact on his success later in life. After Shane had been home for a few years, he often thought it was funny to randomly start speaking Russian to people to confuse them, such as phone solicitors who would call the house. Learning a second language helped Shane as he was then able to learn Spanish quickly and spoke almost fluently helping him later in his construction career.

Shane worked very hard to provide, and he was able to purchase his first home with Jodi within the first year of marriage. Over the years, Shane always worked hard and took great pride in providing a very good life for his family. Together in the early years, Shane and Jodi enjoyed many fun years of boating and waterskiing, going to the lake with friends, and always making good memories with Shane’s cousins and other family members.

Shane dedicated himself to learning the construction trade, specializing in drywall and metal stud framing, while working for his Uncle Jay. Shane was a foreman at a young age and completed major projects including the LDS Conference Center and the Olympic Skating Oval. In 2004, Shane and Jodi moved to St. George, Utah where Shane and his business partner began their own drywall company which grew into a thriving business, working on projects like the 5th District Courthouse and thousands of homes throughout the St. George area. Shane was known for his hard work and consistent demand for the highest quality of work from his employees.

Shane’s boys, Brock and Brexten, were his pride and joy. He lived for his boys and pushed them to work hard in both school and sports. He coached his two sons in both baseball and football throughout their youth and had a great influence not only on his own boys, but all the kids he coached to reach their potential. As Brock and Brexten grew, Shane always supported his boys and attended their games, even traveling to Brock and Brexten’s college games across the United States. Shane loved his nieces and nephews dearly, and was also a constant supporter of them, attending as many of their activities and sports as well.

In 2024, Shane was blessed to gain a beautiful daughter-in-law, Lainee, and granddaughter, Delilah. Shane loved being with Delilah and there was nothing he enjoyed more than to watch her and his dog, Niko, swim in the pool together for hours and hours until they both had swallowed an unhealthy amount of pool water.

Throughout his life, Shane enjoyed spending time in the outdoors, at the cabin with family and friends, hunting, fishing, driving the Razor, and working out to keep himself physically fit while blasting Metallica as loud as he could. Shane’s love for all these things have been passed down to his boys, and everyone has great memories of these activities with Shane.

Shane had a great appreciation for nice cars and loved his 1968 Mustang which he bought as a teenager and ultimately had completely restored to its current pristine condition.

Shane never failed to step up for his family or friends when needed. He was the perfect example of the oldest child to his mother and big brother to his siblings. When his father died, Shane did not hesitate to step forward and lead the family. Shane was always willing to lend a hand to friends and family and spent time helping countless relatives move, complete projects, repair vehicles, and so many other examples of service that can’t be counted.

Shane’s smile, friendly gesture of flipping “the bird”, and love for his family will forever be missed.

He is survived by his wife Jodi Starley, son Brock Starley (Lainee), son Brexten Starley, mother Kae Starley, siblings Tamlyn, Treo, Michele, Sheena and TJ, granddaughter Delilah.
