Shanda Renee Enfield

Shanda Renee Enfield (Hascall) passed away September 19, 2017, surrounded by loved ones.  Shanda fought cancer for over 3 years and surpassed all the expectations given to her.  Many people were touched by the way she battled.    She always tried to beat cancer by the way she lived each day, with all of her heart, with a deep love for her family and friends, and with an enduring faith in her Savior. We celebrate her life and we rejoice that her deep love for the arts allows her to dance gracefully into the arms of her loving Heavenly Father.

Shanda was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan 46 years ago.  She was quickly adopted by her loving parents, Vincent Hascall and Gretchen Knecht.  She was raised in Bethesda Maryland and spent most of her younger years on the East Coast.  She excelled at many sports and dancing was her #1 love.  She spent her high school years at Duke Ellington School of the Arts.

She found the Savior and the Gospel she so loved at the tender age of 16.  Her path led her to Rick’s College and she finished her college degree at the University of Utah.  It was there at a single’s ward she met and married her eternal companion, John Enfield, who has been by her side supporting her since their marriage 22 years and 2 days ago.  They have four children, Vincent, Maya, Sophie, and Jamison who are their pride and joy.

Shanda was always driven to be productive.  She found time to serve in her church callings, volunteer at her children’s schools, attend her children’s sporting events or choir concerts, teach dance, and even get her LMT license while fighting cancer.  She was an inspiration to all those who knew her.  There was never any coincidences with Shanda.  She believed deeply in “Divine Positioning.”  When miracles happened in her life, she knew they were blessings from her Heavenly Father.

Without trying to, she touched deeply those who knew her.  She loved life in spite of the many challenges she faced and with each morning she was allotted, she searched for positive ways she could help and serve and lift others.  She enjoyed the “art of conversation” and would always be found talking with others, sharing experiences, and drawing close to them through sincere communication.  Her favorite past time was to sit with her family on Sunday afternoons and read journal entries from her children when they were young.  Oftentimes, she would burst into laughter which brought tears of happiness and brought the family closer as we all shed “tears of joy” together.

She loved her children with all her heart.  Many times, she could be found providing them comfort through her hugs and simply holding them in the recliner, no matter how old they were.  With gentle massages on their shoulders or scratching their head, she loved nurturing her children.

Heaven has gained a tender-hearted angel today.  We know she will minister to many in a special way, both to those on this side of the veil and those on the other.
