Washington, UT – Roy Dale Merrill, passed away Thursday, Jan. 8th, 2015 doing what he loved to do. He was born on July 1st, 1944 in Pendleton, Oregon to Archie and Florence Merrill. He married the love of his life Michelle Merrill on March 20th, 2001.
Dale is best defined as a hero, an “ordinary man who chose to do extraordinary things.” He was raised in Idaho, where his journey of life began. Dale graduated from Butte High School and married Susan Schureman with whom he had two children Chris and Joann. They later divorced.
Dale was a man of so many talents, he was an Idaho State trooper, he drilled for water with his dad, and he held corporate leadership positions and owned his own businesses. But his biggest passion was the “outdoors.” The ability to give of himself to whomever and in whatever circumstance was his greatest gift of all. His love was unconditional. Most days you could find Dale reading a good book to mom, four wheeling in the desert or prospecting the land with his dogs that he loved so much and considered family. He loved to sing Karoake to his wife…much to the dog’s dismay.
He is survived by his wife Michelle Merrill of Washington, UT; Children; Chris and (Helen) Merrill, JoAnn and (Justin) Grimmett from Idaho; Nic and (Katie) Lauritzen, Jessi Lauritzen, Robbi and (Angie) Lauritzen. Grandchildren; Cooper, Wyatt, Kaleb, Tomas, Landen, Lexi, Addi, Olivia, Lexi, Audrina, Gavin and Ali. He is preceded in death by his parents Archie and Florence Merrill, Brothers Ken and Gary and Sister Ruth Lee (Billy).
Viewing will be Wednesday Jan. 14th, 2015 from 9:00 am to 10:30 am. Followed by the funeral services at 11:00 am. All services will be held at the LDS chapel at 115 W. 2000 S. Washington, UT 84780.
