Robert R. Roe passed away on December 22, 2023, in Ivins, Utah. He spent the last 10 years of his life in Ivins surrounded by the beautiful southern Utah red mountains that he loved. He led a remarkable life with a rich history of achievements, dedication to service and a deep love for his family and country. He was born on August 21, 1951, in Rochester, New York to Robert T. Roe and Ellen A. Collins.
Growing up, Rob was active in sports, excelling in football, ice hockey, soccer, and basketball. His passion for baseball began early, and he started as a pitcher in Little League Baseball, coached by his father. In high school, continued to excel in sports, earning the title of Athlete of the Year in his Senior year in 1969. Rob’s first job was as a caddy, and his love for golf stayed with him throughout his life.
Encouraged by his high school soccer and basketball coaches, Rob applied to West Point Military Academy where he graduated in the class of 1973. He played on WPMA’s baseball and soccer teams.
During his military service, he served for 8 years in heavy artillery, achieving the rank of Captain. His service included a year stationed overseas in Turkey, earning him several medals and ribbons. He earned the Meritorious Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, and Overseas Service Ribbon.
After his military career, Rob worked in the recycled paper industry for over 25 years, ultimately becoming Mill Manager. He married Terri LoPorto in 2002, and together they enjoyed a vacation home in Baja, spent time on the beach, and traveled extensively in their motorhome. Rob took pride in watching his six sons grow into adulthood and cherished his eight grandchildren.
Robert is survived by his spouse Terri, mother-In-law Monte Long, three sons ( Michael Roe, David Roe and Steven Roe), three stepsons (Buck LoPorto, Bowman LoPorto and Kent LoPorto), three daughters-in-law (Krista Roe, Marcia LoPorto and Erin LoPorto), sister Sandra Doring, brother James Roe, brother-in-law Glen Long, sister-in-law Stacy Bray, and their respective families. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren…Jocelynn LoPorto, Colin Roe, Daniel Roe, Makenzie Bautista, Bruce LoPorto, Camden Roe, Benjamin LoPorto, and the newest addition Franklin LoPorto.
A celebration of life for Rob will be held at 331 N Eagle Cove, Ivins, on February 3rd from 1pm – 4pm. Funeral services will take place in April at West Point Military Academy for the family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to West Point Association of Graduates USMA, attention Gift Operations, 698 Mills Road, West Point New York 10996-9910 in honor of Robert R. Roe Class of 1973.
