Richard Ernest Jenkins passed away on April 14, 2025 in Hurricane due to cancer. He was born January 28, 1940 in Nephi to Ernest Jacob and Myrtle Hunt Jenkins. He graduated in 1958 from Jordan High and served in the US Air Force for 20 years. He married Walpurga Trotz in 1961 while stationed in Germany. They were blessed with three sons. They divorced after 15 years.
He was introduced by letter to Carolyn Jeanne Lees Strasburg and were married in 1977 where he instantly, willingly and lovingly became the stepfather to three daughters. They were further blessed with two more sons.
After Carolyn’s passing in March 2010, Richard married Sharon (Sherry) Kay Bohne in October 2010, and were later sealed in the Jordan River Temple.
During his military career he became active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held various callings throughout his life including branch/bishopric counselor, branch president, stake clerk, temple ordinance worker and stake high counselor. He served a senior couples mission with Carolyn at the Martin Handcart Historic Site from April 2005 to September 2006.
Richard is survived by his eternal companion and loving wife of 15 years, Sherry, and sister, Donna Vaughn. Surviving children are Alan, Stephen (Luanne), Brian, James (Heather), Andrew (Mike Chen), and stepchildren Jill (Phil) Tinkham, Annette (Daren) Sandstrom, Janeen (Shane) Reisner, Delon (Gayle) Lukow, and Tamara (Nathan) Roberts; 22 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his previous wives, Walli and Carolyn, siblings Myrle (Don) Sherman, Dale (Glenda), Linda (Wayne) Kay, and stepson, Darin Lukow. He lived most of his life in Midvale, with his last few years in Hurricane.
Memorial services will be held at the LDS Church at 1250 West Atherton Dr, Taylorsville on Saturday, May 3 and 452 North 2600 West, Hurricane, Utah 84737 on Saturday, May 10. Services will begin at 11:00 am. Those who would like to meet with the family are invited to arrive at 10:00 am. Per his wishes, his body was cremated.
