Richard Arlo (Dick) Hendry passed away on October 15, 2019 in St George, Utah He was born May 19, 1935 in Nampa, Idaho to Walter Gordon Hendry and Evelyn (Nelson) Hendry. He was the second of two sons.
He was married and sealed to Marilyn Joy Plowgian in the Salt Lake Temple by her uncle, George Aposhian on July 9, 1971. They adopted two sons, Kyle David Hendry and Steven Robert Hendry.
Dick enjoyed and was active in sports most of his life. He was also active in school politics in Junior High, High School and Junior College and held many class and student body offices. He was also very active for a major part of his life with Boy Scouts of America and attained the rank of Eagle. He served as a Scoutmaster and in most of the executive offices in scouting including Assistant Council Commissioner of the Alamo Area Council in San Antonio, Texas.
He was very active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was guided by basic gospel principles of Prayer, Faith, Love, Patience, Obedience and Gratitude. He held positions working with the youth while serving in a number of bishoprics, on many High Councils and as Stake Young Men’s president and Bishop twice, in San Diego, California and Houston, Texas.
He spent most of his adult life in banking and for over 40 years in the Family Recreation Business, most of that time working for his very close friend John M. Huish and the Huish Family Fun Centers.
Dick is survived by his wife Marilyn and their two children, Kyle David Hendry, his two children, Caleb Arlo Hendry and Madelyn Rose Hendry; and Steven Robert (Joni Heaton) Hendry and their two children Kali Marie Hendry and Tyler Gordon Hendry. He is also survived by his first wife, their children Richard Arlo Buxton, Lawrence Lyman Hendry, and Susan Hendry Cooper (Jerry), grandchildren and great grandchildren; his brother Ronald Gordon (Valerie) Hendry and Ron’s eight children and their families and many other nieces, nephews, cousins and family members. Dick is preceded in death by his parents and son Thomas Kent Buxton.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am, Saturday, October 26, 2019 at the Green Valley 1st Ward – 511 S. Valley View Dr., St George, Utah. Visitations will be Friday, October 25, 2019 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Hughes Mortuary – 1037 East 700 South, St George, Utah, and again from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the funeral services on Saturday at the Green Valley 1st Ward.
Interment: Tonaquint Cemetery, St George, Utah
