Paul Andrew Wheeler, 76, passed away Friday, March 24, 2023, in Ivins, UT.
He was born April 21, 1946, in Ogden, UT. His parents were Ernest Bowman and Virginia Andrew Wheeler.
Paul married Diane Mitchell in 1972 in the Salt Lake Temple.
He was raised and educated in Ogden, attending Washington Terrace Elementary School, South Junior High School, Bonneville High School, and Weber State College. He continued his education at Brigham Young University receiving a BA and MA in Physics and a PhD in Engineering.
Paul was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a mission in the Brazilian South Mission. Paul also served as a bishop in a young married student ward. He served with his wife in the Toronto East Mission in Canada and later as Area Technology Specialists in the Brazil Area, centered in São Paulo, Brazil.
He served his country in the 25th Infantry during the Vietnam war as an SP-5.
Paul started his career at General Atomic Co in San Diego, CA. He then returned to Utah as a member of the Electrical Engineering faculty at Utah State University in Logan, UT, where he taught for about 30 years.
He is survived by his wife, Diane Wheeler of Ivins, UT, his daughter, Andrea Smith (Jason) of St George, UT and six grandchildren. Also surviving are four brothers, David (Faye) Wheeler of Lindon, UT, Richard (Virginia) Wheeler of San Jose, CA, Wendell (Yvette) Wheeler of Warrenton, VA, and Douglas (Linda) Wheeler of Chantilly, VA.
Viewings will be held Thursday, March 30th from 6:00 – 8:00 pm and Friday, March 31st from 9:30 – 10:45 am at the Ivins Sixth Ward chapel, 260 E 1060 S in Ivins. This will be followed by funeral services 11:00 am. Interment will be at the Ivins City Cemetery, corner of 200 West and 400 North in Ivins.
