Paul Derek Matthias

St. George Utah, Paul Derek Matthias, 47 passed away January 21, 2018.

He was born October 26, 1970 in San Jose, California to Robert and Linda Matthias.

Paul graduated from Oak Grove High School in San Jose, California. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Idaho, Boise Mission. He held several callings in the Church.  Next to having served a mission, he loved being a Stake Missionary.  He worked for Walmart, Home Depot, and Cracker Barrel.  A resident of San Jose, Morgan Hill, Fresno, and Fallbrook, California, and Saint George Utah.  Paul loved all things family.  He looked forward to every milestone, birthdays, holidays, and vacations, especially things related to his nephews and nieces.  He was the best uncle ever.  He also loved playing board and card games.  He knew how to play them well.  He was an avid sports fan who loved supporting his teams, Oakland Raiders and San Jose Sharks.  He knew all the sports players and statistics, not just for his favorite teams but for others.  He was so knowledgeable and smart, he could strike up a conversation with anybody.

He is survived by his parents, Robert Wayne Matthias and Linda Mary Matthias (St. George, UT), his three sisters, Wendy Matthias Scott (Fresno, CA), Kristen Matthias Weaver (Colorado Springs, CO), and Rachel Matthias Mecham (St. George, UT). His brothers-in-law, Ty Kittakima Scott and Kenneth Orval Mecham. And his nephews and nieces, Benjamin Weaver (22) Joseph Scott (21) Nathan Weaver (20) Emily Mecham (16) Jaxon Weaver (15) Ashley Mecham (12) Matthias Scott (9) and Thomas Scott (8).

Funeral Services will be Friday, February 2, 2018 at the LDS Chapel, 675 E Desert Hills Dr. St. George, UT. Visitation at 10am, services will begin at 10:30 am.  Interment will take place at the Washington City Cemetery following services.
