Michael Ryan Fox, age 41, returned to his heavenly home on November 23, 2023. He leaves behind a legacy of family, friendship, leadership, love, and testimony.
Mike was born on February 1, 1982 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was adopted by Brent Charles Fox and Janice Kaye Schmalle. He grew up in Redmond, Washington and lived in various places until he and his family permanently settled in St. George, Utah.
He loved his family, church, football and coaching. Mike achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America. He served a full-time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Guatemala City South mission where he became fluent in Spanish. Mike enjoyed being an entrepreneur in various businesses and partnerships.
He attended Redmond High School, Class of 2000, where he played football for three years. He was the senior class president during his senior year at Redmond High. Mike later graduated from Southern Utah University with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice.
Mike met his wife Melanie while working at a youth rehabilitation camp in the St. George area in 2006. They were married on August 8, 2008 (8-8-8) and lived in St. George, Redmond, WA, Fargo, North Dakota and finally back in St. George, UT, where they settled in and enjoyed the life they were building together with their children.
Mike was a friend to all he came in touch with. He was outgoing, funny, generous, mentor, coach, and a natural leader. He loved the youth in various church callings, and coached the freshmen football team at Crimson Cliffs High School in St. George. He was also an assistant coach of the Varsity football team.
Mike deeply loved his family and was a hands-on dad. He recently enjoyed coaching his son Charlie’s third grade football team.
Mike leaves behind his beautiful wife, Melanie, and their three amazing children, Colette, Charles, and Cambry. He is also survived by parents Brent and Janice Fox, sisters Carrie Fox and Allison Fox Beeson (Brock Beeson), and 7 beautiful nieces who adored their Uncle Mikey.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at 11:00 AM at 2668 Crimson Ridge Dr in St. George, Utah. A viewing will be held on Friday, December 1, 2023 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the same location listed above (Casual Dress). Internment will be in the Washington City Cemetery, Washington, Utah.
Arrangements are made under the direction of Hughes Mortuary, 1037 East 700 South, St. George, Utah, (435) 674-5000. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Melanie and the children (venmo @melanie-fox-8).
