Maximilano Loya Torres Age 86 passed away at his home in St. George, Utah surrounded by family on December 11, 2022. Max was born on December 29, 1935 in Salinas, Ca. He was the oldest of 3 boys born to Maximiliano and Consuelo Pena. After his father and mother divorced he took the last name of his step father Torres, when they moved to Utah.
Max graduated from Cedar High School where he was active in sports where he excelled in wresting and football. He enjoyed bowling, racquetball, boxing, snowmobiling, biking, four wheeling, boating, and hunting. He loved gardening and keeping his yards beautifully maintained. He especially loved spending time at his Pinto property "Torres Pinto Paradise" alongside his family friends and four legged buddy Billy.
Max married Joanne Reese, later divorced. They had two sons, Thomas Lee Torres and Michael Torres.
Max found the love of his life Clyda Porter, when he was called to service her typewriter, they were married May 5, 1961 and later sealed in the St. George temple on December 3, 1963 and spent 61 wonderful years together. They had 4 children Natalie, Anthony, Jeffrey Nathan and Richard Max.
Max was a convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints, he served as Elders quorum Secretary for many years and was also a cub master.
He served in the 222 National guard for 10 years and was mess sergeant of that battery.
Max was owner of Southern Utah Office Machines and Supplies and was co-owner of Melody Lane Cafe, a joint owner of New Horizon Travel Agency and guided many groups to Mexico.
Max served on the State board of education, Western Educational technology board and served as a board member of Dixie State College. Max was also awarded Man of The Year in Cedar City which he was proud of. He was an example of love and giving to those who where less fortunate and was a true friend to all that knew him.
He is survived by his wife Clyda Torres of St. George. Children, Mike (Debbie)Torres of Cedar City, Ut. Jeff Torres of St. George Richard (Sarah) Torres of St. George, Ut. Kerry Demille (son in law) of Laverkin, Ut. Siblings Eddie (Sandra) Torres of St. George, Ut. Delores (Leroy) Houchen of Cedar City, Ut. Fred (Linda) Torres of St. George, Ut. Lupita (Pete) Madrigal of Brawley, Ca. Rosemary (Richard) Rubio of Brawley, Ca. David (Raquel) Pena of Imperial Valley, Ca. and Bobbie Pena of California. 15 Grandchildren, 32 Great Grand children, and expecting 1 more great grandchild and expecting his first Great great grandchild.
Preceded in death by Consuelo Loya Torres (Mother) Maximiliano Pena (Father) Miguel Torres (Stepfather) Thomas lee Torres (Son) Natalie Torres DeMille (Daughter) Anthony Torres (son) Rudy Torres (Brother) Carmen Gale (Sister) Max Pena Jr. (Brother) Tory Torres (Grand daughter) Felicia Gale (Niece) Royce Houchen (Nephew) and Tyson Torres (Nephew)
The family would like to express gratitude for all the friends and family that have helped through these times and special thanks to Enhabit Home Health & Hospice (Dr Stratford & Staff, Carla, Laurie, Janice, Aubrey, Ginger) for the loving care they gave to Max.
