Mary Elaine Peterson, 67, passed away November 17, 2021.
She was born June 25, 1954, in Tooele, Utah, to Mary Garvene Garbe. She was the
oldest of 3 children, 1 brother and 1 sister.
Elaine graduated from Manti High School in Manti, Utah in 1972 before marrying
the love of her life Douglas Peterson on June 10, 1972, in the Manti LDS Temple.
She attended Snow College South in Richfield, Utah in 1993, where she studied
nursing. Elaine lived in Ephraim, Monroe, Enoch, and Washington, Utah where
she worked for BeeHive Homes, Emerald Point, and Kolob Care and Rehab as a
CNA and cook/dietary. She spent the last 16 years as an in-home caregiver to her
sons Kyle and Donnie.
She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and
enjoyed the many callings within the Church. Elaine’s favorite past time was
knitting quilts and visiting with her children, grandchildren, and great
grandchildren. She loved her family dearly, Elaine made sure her family knew how
much they meant to her. She would post little messages on their Facebook pages
for their birthdays and every holiday. Elaine would reach out to her family out of
the blue just to let them know she was thinking of them, and she loved them
always.
She is survived by her husband Douglas Peterson, Washington; children, Kevin
Peterson, Salt Lake City; (Edward) Carolee Peterson, Tooele; Kenneth (Ronee)
Peterson, St. George; Keith (Martha) Peterson, Cedar City; Kerry (Mary) Peterson,
Tooele; Kyle Peterson, Washington; Kurt Peterson, St. George; (Sewell) Candice
Ikinum, Hawaii; and Donnie Peterson, Washington; 18 grandchildren and 12 great
grandchildren; sister, Pamela Slaugh, St. George.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Mary Garvene Slaugh; brother, Richard
Slaugh; and great grandchildren, James and Mariah Jessop.
Funeral service will be held on Monday, December 6, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. in the
Washington Utah Buena Vista Stake Warm Springs Ward, in Washington. Friends
may call for viewing at the ward chapel in Washington Monday morning from 9:00
a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Washington City Cemetery.
Arrangements are made under the direction of Hughes Mortuary, 1037 E. 700 S.
St. George, Utah, (435) 674-5000. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the
Peterson Family at 1005 N Tortoise Rock Dr, Unit 17, Washington, Utah 84780.
