Martin Kent Strong, 68, passed away on April 2, 2025. He was born January 23, 1957, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Kenneth Maurice & Katherine Heise Strong.
Martin was raised in Ogden, Utah, where he graduated from Bonneville High School in 1975. He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Austria Vienna Mission from 1976-78. He graduated from Brigham Young University in 1982 with a Bachelors degree in Family Financial Planning & Counseling. As an adult, he lived in Orem, Provo, Salt Lake City, West Valley, Sandy, UT; Anchorage, AK; and ended up in the place he loved most, St. George, UT.
Dad was a fixit man! He could build and fix just about anything around the house and yard. While at BYU, he learned to install flooring, and ended up becoming a professional installer throughout his life. He worked hard at his craft, and tried to stay on top of the latest products and techniques. He was sought after in both residential and commercial settings across Utah and other states for his attention to detail and good, honest work.
Dad loved music, hunting, sports, reading, and politics. In his younger days he could be found singing in Bonneville’s Tapestry choir, playing the part of Rolf in their production of The Sound of Music, and often singing in his ward choirs. He loved to read and learn—he was never known to go to bed without his book light and a book, and loved to share the things he was learning. As a lover of history, he was very fascinated with politics and passionate about patriotism. He always encouraged his kids and grandkids to read and learn to think for themselves. In his later years, he fulfilled an old desire to learn to play the saxophone. He spent his last seven years in southern Utah where he loved reading in the park, cruising the trails on his e-bike with his granddaughter Keelie, and taking his side-by-side on fun adventures.
He is survived by his father Kenneth Strong, St. George, UT; daughter Lindy (John) Jeppson, Anchorage, AK; son Brant Strong, Roy, UT; son Kyle Strong, St. George, UT; daughter Cali (David) Byrd, Ammon, ID; daughter Jerica (Dallin) Flinders, Saratoga Springs, UT; grandchildren Keelie, Ammon, Kiraya, Brigham, Abigail, Brynlee, Jayson, Kenner, Swayde, Tyce, Sophie, Beckham, Presley, Lily, Henry; and sisters Alonna (Steve) Andrus and Wendi (Matt) Combs. He is preceded in death by inlaws, Joan Rose & O. Thomas Hansen; and mother, Katherine Strong.
