Our sweet momma, LaRae Griffin Allen is once again playing beautiful music with her eternal sweetheart. Momma closed her eyes and went very peacefully on Wednesday, April 28, 2021, just shy of her 101st birthday.
LaRae was born in Escalante, Utah, on June 1, 1920 to Joseph (Jody) Andrew Griffin and Rebecca Roundy Griffin. She was child number 5 of 7 children. Momma was raised in Escalate where she graduated from High School. She then met and married Francis Marion Allen on October 21, 1942 in the Manti LDS temple. After their marriage they lived in Kingston, Utah. Later they moved to Orem, Utah, then Lindon, Utah and finally to LaVerkin, Utah where they spent the last 27 years.
LaRae was much more than her bright blue eyes and pretty, shy smile. Her secret superpower was that she could hunt and fish better than almost anyone in the family. Her ability to make a loaf of bread so yummy, it could bring a grown person to tears! She taught herself to play the drums so she could join the Allen family Orchestra which included Daddy on his saxophone and Momma on her drums. They played for many dances in the good old days throughout Southern Utah. Momma loved music and seemed to always be tapping her fingers and toes to an upbeat tune. She was an avid BYU and Utah Jazz fan. When we visited, we would often find her watching one of the games, volume at full blast so she wouldn’t miss a detail.
LaRae was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She held numerous callings in the Primary, Sunday school, Young Women, and Relief Society. She and Daddy served two missions together. First to Mississippi and then a service mission at Cove Fort, Utah.
She was the last of her family to pass on and we are sure the generation of loved ones she joins is celebrating having her home as she joyously reunites with daddy who preceded her on June 4, 2020 after 77 years of marriage, and with her two children Steven and Stephanie who she lost at birth, her parents, and siblings; Beaumont, Othello, Allene, LaVern, Yukon, Lahoma, Grandson’s Kelly Bundy and Joshua Sorensen and a great granddaughter, Shaylee Rose Johnson.
She leaves behind many wonderful memories and she was an amazing example to her children Jolene (Larry) Bundy, Sylvia (John) Sears, Cecelia (Don) De St Jeor, Rosie (Kevin) Tippetts, Mike (Richele) Allen. Her 19 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren who treasure her.
The family wants to give a special thanks to Sherry Lewis & Suntree Hospice for lovingly caring for our mother.
Funeral services will be Friday, May 7th, 2021 at 11:00 AM with a viewing at 9:00 AM at the LaVerkin LDS Chapel, 481 North Main St., LaVerkin, Utah. Interment will be in the LaVerkin City Cemetery.
