Kathleen Clare Reid passed away peacefully at her home on March 30, 2025 in St. George, Utah. Kathleen was born June 27, 1932 in Cardston, Alberta Canada to LeRoy Alder and Clara Rollins Hudson. On August 21, 1954 Kathleen married Ronald L. Reid in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. She and Ron were later divorced after 21 years of marriage. Thirty-five years later, Kathleen and Ron were reunited in marriage and sealed as a family with their four children on July 10, 2010 in the Seattle, Washington Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Kathleen was born in Cardston, Canada. During her childhood, her family lived in various small towns in Northern Montana, including St. Ignatius, Montana. She was the eighth of twelve children — seven sisters and four brothers. At the age of twelve Kathleen's family moved to Everett, Washington, where she spent the majority of her life. During her lifetime, Kathleen developed countless gifts and talents that blessed the lives of those around her. Many lives were touched through her lifelong devotion to serving others. She was an outstanding homemaker, wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend. She was able to create beauty in the world around her, whether through the dresses she made, the flowers she arranged, the rooms she decorated or the meals she cooked. She had a special gift of creating something wonderful.
Kathleen's Christ-like service was rooted firmly in her unwavering faith and love for the Savior. She stood strong throughout her life in her faith and testimony in the gospel of Jesus Christ. Kathleen was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings throughout the years, including numerous Relief Society assignments and activities using her creative homemaking skills. In addition, she served many years as a family history consultant in the stake genealogy library, helping others find and learn about their deceased ancestors. These opportunities were rewarding not only for Kathleen but all those she was able serve and share in their joy. Because of Kathleen’s example, many have come to know and love the Savior as she does.
Growing up in the 1930s & 40s had its challenges, especially living through the Depression and WWII. These challenges were lessened with the love and support of her large family. Kathleen’s childhood was spent among six loving sisters and four loving brothers. Holidays and vacations were scheduled and organized with ever expanding family reunions that were loud and joyous, filled with fun and games. Kathleen, as much as anyone in the extended family, enjoyed the time spent socializing together.
One of Kathleen’s favorite entertainment activities was playing card games. In her early married life, she was active in bridge clubs and other social card games. She played with friends and her brothers and sisters. When her grandchildren got old enough, Kathleen taught them her favorite card games. Kathleen played cards with her kids and grandkids into her 90s.
In Kathleen's middle age, bowling for fun and with competitive leagues was widely popular. She became an excellent bowler. She enjoyed traveling to, and competing in, bowling tournaments. Kathleen’s friends, sisters, sisters-in-law, daughters and nieces also enjoyed playing the sport together with her. While she bowled with the women and girls in her family, on occasion she would be seen teaching her sons and grandsons how to dance her 1940s dances. Kathleen's energy and rhythm was unmatched on the dance floor. She loved dancing and sharing her talent with her family.
Her passion for fun and competition expanded also into her political life, where Kathleen became an avid supporter of the Republican Party. She never shied away from her beliefs and held strong to her love for America and in her support for her favorite Republican politicians.
Kathleen loved life and nothing made her happier than spending it with family and friends.
Kathleen is survived by her four children, Susan (Gary) Grimnes, Stuart (Laura) Reid, Scott (Tiffany) Reid and Shari (Dale) Brown. She loved to tell everyone she has 24 grandchildren and 45 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her in-laws, Donna Hudson Webb, Ron Smith, Sharyl Reid and numerous nieces and nephews.
Kathleen was preceded in death by her husband, Ron Reid, her adopted son, Aaron Johnson, her parents, Roy and Clara and her eleven siblings, LaVon, Susan, Conrad, Harley, Betty, Reid, Colleen, Jeanine, Joy, Joan and David.
There will be a Celebration of Life for Kathleen on May 10, 2025 in Everett, Washington time and place to be determined at a later date.
The family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to Chloe and Garrison, Kathleen's grandchildren, who have been her full time caregivers for over a year and a half. They loved her, gave her excellent care and their care allowed her to be able to live out her life in the home she loved and be near her friends and family that were nearby.
We would also like to thank Applegate Home Care and Hospice for their sensitive care and love for the work they did these past 2 weeks for Kathleen.
