On June 15 th 2022 at 12:15 am, in Saint George, Utah, Joyce Carlin passed peacefully into the Glory of her Savior’s arms. With her family close at hand, Joyce succumbed to the cancer she had been fighting for 4 years.
Joyce was born in 1950 in Salt Lake City to William and Lois Bain. While they moved a little bit from New Jersey to California, Joyce mostly grew up a Utah girl. She was a talented vocalist at a young age, and pursued a career in music in her teens and twenties.
At age 20, she married and soon gave birth to her only daughter. From that time on, Joyce was focused on her family, and teaching children. She got a job in the early ‘80’s at Challenger Pre-school and found her calling. When the family moved to Saint George, Utah, she immediately got hired at the Early Intervention Center teaching children with disabilities. Ultimately, she became the director of that program taking it to a higher level.
After marrying the love of her life, G. E. Carlin and becoming a saved Christian, the focus of her education goals changed, and she and her daughter started what would become Caritas Academy of Classical Christian Education. This school and the families who have called Caritas theirs were Miss Joyce’s absolute joy! Until her last day, she asked about the kids, and was glad to hear what they were accomplishing in school. She gave everything for this call of the Lord on her life. She advocated for children to be educated in a place they could learn about the Lord as well as earn their diplomas, and had the Utah representatives all on speed dial.
Miss Joyce was passionate about politics and was never shy to give her very educated opinion on the subject. She loved teaching Political Science at school, loved seeing students ignited to make a change in their world.
During her life she authored 4 books: Daughters of the Most High, A Time to Be Deborah, Cookies in Heaven, and You Did What With Your Child?
If there was anything Miss Joyce was more passionate about than kids and politics, it was the Lord. She was a great warrior for Christ, and never compromised His Word. She prayed with no hesitation in every situation, gave God the glory for triumphs, and praised His perfect mercy in rough times. He was, and remains her first thought. We are comforted by the knowledge that she is with Him in glory now and forever, and that we will be together again at the Lord’s will.
Joyce is survived by her husband, G. E. Carlin, her daughter, Leslie Ann Anderson, son-in-law, Brian Anderson, sisters, Bonnie Averett and Kay Pierce, brothers, Larry Bain and Bruce Bain, and about 10,000 students that she has and will always call her own.
