Jeanette Norma Jensen

Jeanette "Jan" Norma Jensen of Mesquite, NV, died on April 4, 2023 at the Saint George Regional Hospital in St. George, UT, after a brief illness, at the age of 83. Jan was born on January 14, 1940 in rural Fredonia, North Dakota and raised in Enderlin ND, where she graduated from High School in 1958. She attended Interstate Business College in Fargo, ND. She married Alan Jensen on May 1, 1960 and they had one son, Richard. They later divorced. 

 

She then worked as a secretary at NDSU in Fargo, ND. In 1972, she married the love of her life, Larry Jensen, in Bangkok, Thailand, while he served in the Air Force. After his discharge, they moved to Laurens, IA where they owned and managed Jensen Spraying. In 1996 they sold the business and moved to Mesquite, NV, where they purchased a home on a golf course. They were founding members of the Mesquite United Methodist Church.

 

Jan was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. While in Iowa, she did a lot of gardening, cooking and supporting the family business. She loved her dogs, Schmoo and Sam. Whether she was shuttling Matt and Megan around to lessons or helping them with school projects, giving Tom swimming lessons, or doting on Marelda and Matylda, Jan was always there for her family and put smiles on the faces of those around her. 

 

Jeanette stayed busy in Mesquite spending many of her days playing cards and having lunch with many friends whom she adored. She also enjoyed visiting the local casinos where everyone knew her by name. She was visited frequently by family who loved to spend time with her. 

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Jensen; a son, Richard Jensen; her parents, Matt and Martha Schlecht and a sister Marjorie Schlecht. 

 

She is survived by her brother, Wilbur Schlecht (Susan) of Enderlin, ND; grandchildren Megan Jensen of the United States, Marlayna Jensen of Fonda, IA, and Matt Jensen of Pomeroy, IA; son Thomas Jensen of Vienna, Austria; daughter-in-law Maren Jensen of Minneapolis, MN, grandson Samuel Jensen of Minneapolis, MN and granddaughter Anna Jensen of St. Paul, MN; and great-grandchildren, Marelda and Matylda Diggs of Fonda, IA, Adrian Jensen of Little Rock, IA, two brothers-in-law, Frank C. Hopp, Jr. and Fredrick N. Hopp, and several nieces and nephews.

 

A memorial service will be held at the Mesquite United Methodist Church on April 15, 2023 at 11 a.m. streaming is available on YouTube channel "Mesquite Methodist Church."  A service and interment are being planned for this summer in Fonda, IA.
