Janet Laurie Rice

Janet L. (Marshall) Rice born July 14, 1948, in Joliet IL to Glenn and Gladys Marshall, passed away on February 3, 2023 after developing Metastatic Breast Cancer from her original Breast Cancer disease at the age of 74.

Jan attended UW Stevens Point where she studied Home Economics and met the love of her life and best friend, Steve Rice at Rudy's. The couple were joined in marriage on August 16, 1969. During their 53 years of marriage they created a beautiful family and shared many adventures together. Jan and Steve spent much of their married life in Wisconsin. Once they both retired, they moved to Mesquite, Nevada where they started new adventures together.

Jan loved to sew and quilt. Her passion for sewing lead to her starting a home business where she created quilts, did alternations and sewed bridal dresses. When she wasn't sewing Jan also enjoyed snowmobiling, going to the rodeo and traveling. Jan and Steve frequently traveled to Mexico, Missouri, Tennessee, and Wisconsin, making the long drive back, always finding new routes and new quilt shops along the way. Jan was a member of several quilt guilds both in Wisconsin and Nevada and P.E.O. International.

Above all things her family was the most important thing in her life. She cherished the time she spent with her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt who made sure to talk to her family in Wisconsin on a weekly basis. Jan and Steve spent quality time with each family member making sure each knew how special they were. They could be heard cheering at special events, sending words of encouragement, mailing favorite cookies during the holidays, sending "just because gifts," and when back in Wisconsin sharing lots of hugs.

Jan was preceded in death by her father (Glenn), mother (Gladys), and brother (James). She left behind her husband, Steve, daughters Kathryn (Nick) Beaumont, and Stefanie (Dan) Mulby, six grandchildren Ryan Bergen, Ethan Bergen, Aaron Delvis, Trevor Bergen, Alexandria Mulby, Shea Mulby, brother Jack (Lin) Marshall and other family members and friends.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date in Nevada and in Wisconsin.
