Janet was born on September 27th , 1945, in Logan, Utah to Verl H. Anderson and Madge Earl. She grew up in nearby Fielding, Utah. On December 21 st , 1974, she was married to Jerry Harrison Leming and on March 25 th , 1977, she and Jerry, along with their first-born son, Jayson Loyd, were sealed for time and all eternity in the St. George Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Temple.
Janet grew up learning the value of hard work while working on the Anderson family farm. She attended Bear River High School and, being a natural performer, she became a “High Stepper” and played sports ranging from basketball, to volleyball, to softball. Later she would attend Utah State University where she majored in Physical Education. After college, Janet served an honorable mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Denmark, Copenhagen mission.
Janet worked as a teacher in Los Angeles, California, and both Mesquite, Nevada and Overton (Moapa Valley), Nevada. She taught Physical Education, Speech/Drama, Art, and Home Economics. As a teacher, Janet impacted the lives of 1000’s of students over the course of her career.
Janet had a deep love for the arts, specifically painting and storytelling. She would spend hours a day painting beautiful mountain scenes, cabins, and even the occasional abstract art project. She honed her storytelling skills as a teacher, dedicating sections of her Physical Education curriculum to the art form. She was a passionate sports fan, spending a large portion of her life either coaching, playing, or watching sports. She especially enjoyed watching her children play sports, even after they were adults. Janet also fancied herself an amateur florist and would love to create silk flower arrangements and holiday specific wreaths that she would give away to friends and family, or proudly display in her home. Janet also loved being in the mountains and spending time staying at the family cabin. She would often spend time looking for wild animals native to the area, specifically deer, elk, or wild horses.
Janet loved to travel and see new places. She and Jerry drove across the United States more than once to visit children and to see the country. She loved being in South Carolina and often daydreamed of living there. She would take trips there every chance she could. She would also travel to Reno, Nevada to spend time with her dear sister, Sharon Rytting, or to northern Utah and Arizona to see children and grandchildren there. In her youth she was able to travel around Europe with her late mother and Canada with her late father. She and her husband even took their children to Mexico so that they could say they had been there.
Janet was a collector of small trinkets, including spoons, bells, cranberry crystal, Precious Moments figurines, lighthouses, boxes, Hummel figurines, unique shaped drinking glasses, and too many others to count. She loved to create displays to show off her prized pieces.
