James Carl Sorensen, 84, passed away peacefully at his home in St George Utah on April 20th 2018 and returned back to our Father in Heaven. He was born December 28th 1933 in Austin, Utah to Ernest Alonzo and Rosella Larsen Sorensen. He Spent his first years in Austin and then moved to Salt Lake City Utah. He graduated from West High School. After graduation, he went to Barber school and opened his own shop in Holiday, UT and became a custodian for the LDS Church.
James married Peggy Joyce Rugg June 18th, 1954 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Together, they raised 8 children and were happily married for 44 years until she passed away in 1996. He married Claudia E. Hancock on May 22, 2000. They moved to St. George where they enjoyed many happy years together, traveling to many places and going on many cruises.
James was an active member of the LDS Church serving in many callings including Elders Quorum presidencies, High Priest Group Secretary, and temple worker. He had a very strong testimony and loved the Gospel with all his heart. His family meant the world to him and he loved it when they would visit him or go on vacations with him.
He is survived by his wife Claudia; his children; Duane (Katherine) Sorensen, Cheryl Ann (Ron)Gardner, Lynette (Kevin) Meadows, Gary E. (Lisa) Sorensen , Douglas L. Sorensen, Michelle Emily (Trent)Oliphant, Galen C. (Victoria) Sorensen and Janice M. (Travis) Johnson as well as stepchildren Danny (Christine) Hancock, Richard Hancock, Nancy Anderson, Kristy (Shane) Bingham, Lance (Jenny) Hancock and Jared (Katie) Hancock along with 50+ grand and great grandchildren and sisters Rosalie (Dave) Capson and Irene Hubard. He is preceded in death by his parents and his first wife Peggy Joyce, his granddaughter Regina A. Sorensen, great granddaughter Amilya C. Sorensen and siblings Connie Rausch and Ernest J. Sorensen.
A viewing will be held from 6:00-7:30 p.m. on April 26, 2018 at Bloomington Hills 6th Ward, 750 E. Fort Pierce Drive, St. George Utah. Funeral services will be held on Saturday April 28, 2018 at the LDS church located at 5927 S. Parkwood Drive, Kearns, Utah at 11:00 am with a viewing prior to the Funeral Service from 9-10:45 am. Internment at Redwood Memorial Estates in Salt Lake City
