Gloria Jo Jones Hirschi Olson (80), a loving wife, mother, grandmother, caring sister, faithful friend and successful business owner, passed away on February 7, 2021 after a long struggle with Parkinson’s & Lewy Body Dementia. Gloria grew up in Toquerville, Utah with her parents George Marvin & Josephine Theobald Jones and three sisters, the late Lorena Shepler, Helene Imlay and Delores Visher. She was preceded in death by her late husband Richard Lee Hirschi. Richard and Gloria had three daughters, Terece Worrell (Clay) and twins Heather Harris (Mike), and Hollie Miller (Matt). Later she met and married Roger Corry Olson and blended their families along with his daughter Cori Lynn Olson. As a single mother she successfully grew the ABC Shop and For Kids Only retail stores. Her business acumen and strong sense of community lead to leadership positions including President of the Retail Merchants Association, President St. George Area Chamber of Commerce and President of the Washington County Chamber of Commerce. Her accolades included the Woman of Achievement Award. After her marriage to Roger they moved to Las Vegas and began running a successful insurance agencies. Her people skills and gentle kindness led her to excel in this new business opportunity which is still thriving today.
Gloria was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She had the opportunity to serve and share her love of music. In her later years she became an avid quilter inspired by her mother’s passion for quilting and needlework. Many of her quilts received ribbons at the Washington County Fairs including Judges Choice.
Her life revolved around her grandchildren. She dedicated an annual Camp Grandma which was filled with travel, adventures and special times with grandma. These lifelong memories will be treasured by her grandchildren; Monika, Alysha, Bryant, Eron, Victoria, Eva and Weston.
Gloria was dynamic, outgoing and had a heart of gold. She prided herself in helping others, taking risk and opportunities in business ventures and giving back to her community. She lived a life of service, but her family was her greatest joy and biggest accomplishment. With God and good intentions in her heart, Gloria will be remembered for her positive attitude and the way she made others feel good about themselves.
While suffering these terrible diseases, she left a heartfelt hand written note to her family that said, “I may not remember your name-my heart always knows you and loved you”.
