Gary George Mattson passed away peacefully on June 30, 2021. He was born in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served an honorable mission in the Grand Junction, CO mission from 1973 to 1975. He also served in a variety of callings and assignments in the church throughout his life. Gary had 3 children with his first wife, Kathy Mattson. Gary and Alice served together for three years in the St George temple.
Gary was a plumber by trade, and loved to help people. Gary moved to St George, Utah in 2011 where he found his sweetheart Alice. They were married in 2012 and were sealed in the St George Temple in the spring of 2014. Gary loved people, music, cars, and jokes, and he had a tender heart.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Gladys Mattson. He is survived by his loving wife, Alice, his former wife Kathy Mattson, his children Nicole (Ryan) LeBaron, Brandon (Sarah) Mattson, Jaclyn (Scott) Furbershaw; Step-children Karena (Keith) Jensen, Tyler (Elane) Rogers, Candice (Jamie) Frost, Blaine (Courtney) Rogers, 21 grandchildren, siblings Ken (Laura) Mattson and Diane (Mike) Grashaw, many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services for Gary will be held Tuesday July 6 th at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 511 South Valley View Dr, St George UT, 84770. Viewing available from 9:30-10:30 am. Funeral service to be held at 11 am. Gary will be laid to rest at Tonaquint Cemetery in St George, Utah. Alice and the family want to thank the staff at Bella Terra and Integrated Hospice care who cared for Gary the last 2 months. They also want to thank Sun Tree Hospice, as well as the staff of Dixie Regional hospital who cared for him on many occasions through multiple health crises during the last few years. Alice also wishes to thank the non-profit organization Memory Matters who helped
Gary and her through the journey of Alzheimer's and Vascular Dementia.
