Farnes G. Egbert

February 26, 1934 — April 8, 2025

St. George, UT

Farnes G. Egbert passed quietly and peacefully from mortality to the spirit world on April 8th, 2025, at his home in St. George, Utah. He was surrounded by several family members. He was 91 years old.

He was born on February 26, 1934, in his parents’ home in West Jordan, Utah. He grew up on the family farm. His parents are Wilford and Olivia Gardner Egbert. He was the last of six children, three older sisters, and two older brothers, all of whom have preceded him in death.

Farnes grew up loving farming with his family and at age 14 purchased 40 acres of ground to start his own farm. Working the dirt and raising crops was always something he loved and enjoyed throughout his life. He graduated from Jordan High School. Due to World War II, Farnes did not have an opportunity to serve a full-time mission as a young man. A draft was inevitable, and knowing this, Farnes enlisted in the army 6 months earlier than the draft, so he could return home in time for fall planting after his military service. He was stationed in Germany for nearly two years. Farnes attended BYU in Provo and Utah State University in Logan, where he studied agriculture and mechanics.

Farnes married Delores (Lorrie) Burmester, also of West Jordan, Utah, on August 1 , 1958, in the Logan, Utah Temple. They originally lived on their farm in West Jordan, where their first three sons were born. In 1964, they sold their farm and bought a ranch in Metropolis, Nevada. They lived on the ranch for over 30 years, had two more sons there, and raised their five boys on the ranch, never having any neighbors that lived closer than 4 miles away. He loved working with his wife and sons on their ranch in Nevada. Even at 90 years old, Farnes still worked on his son’s ranch in Clover Valley, Nevada, working long days swathing and hauling hay.

In the latter part of 1994, after all of their sons were grown and married, they sold the ranch and moved to St. George, Utah, to live closer to most of their children and grandchildren. They have lived in St. George since that time.

Farnes’ life has always been centered around his wife, family, and serving the Lord. He and Lorrie have always been very active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many different callings throughout his life in his wards and stakes. He was called as Stake President in the Elko, Nevada Stake and prior as the Wells Ward Bishop. He and Lorrie served a full-time mission together in Iowa from 2003-2005 and loved the missionaries and members they served. Farnes & Lorrie worked for many years as ordinance workers in the St. George Temple. Having been sealed for 62 years, Lorrie passed away in 2020, and Farnes has longed to be with her every day since. Their reunion on the other side of the veil is something they’ve both looked forward to every day since they’ve been apart.

He is survived by his son Scott (Laurel) Egbert of Clover Valley, Wells, NV. His son Cory (Shelly) Egbert of Fernley, NV. His daughter-in-law, Kaylene Egbert of St. George, UT. His son Andrew (Salli) Egbert of Hurricane, UT. And his son Justin (Megan) Egbert of St. George, UT. He is also survived by 23 grandchildren and 54 great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents and siblings, he was preceded in death by his eternal companion Lorrie, and his third son, Kenn. His funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 19th, at 11:00 a.m., at the Boulder Ridge East Stake Center located at 450 West 3650 South Washington, Utah. A viewing will be from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. Interment will take place in the Washington City Cemetery. Arrangements are made under the direction of Hughes Mortuary, St. George, Utah.
