Erwin Orlo Davenport (Pecos), age 86, passed away in his home on Thursday, May 24, 2018, in St. George, Utah. He was born November 2, 1931 in Panguitch, Utah to Orlo Pass and Prudence Luetta Partner Davenport. He married Cleone Wallis on September 5, 1956 and their sealing was performed in the St. George LDS Temple. They recently celebrated their 61st anniversary.
Erwin was known as a hardworking cowboy. He had a warm personality, a great sense of humor, and an amazing work ethic. He wasn’t just a carpenter, he was a craftsman. Erwin was a humble man of honesty and integrity. His motto was, “If you are going to do something, do it RIGHT.”
Erwin was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and enjoyed serving in various callings. He loved the gospel and gave the best family prayers. He was a Veteran of the Korean War and loved his country.
No one would ever call him lazy. Erwin worked at George Seegmiller’s Farm, Ashby & McQuade, Warren Hannig Construction, Chris Chrisman Cabinets, and Creative Investments Company.
He enjoyed coaching little league, riding horses, being outdoors, dutch oven cooking, reading books, and riding four wheelers. He had a gift for working with cattle and knew where every road in southern Utah led. He loved watching the Utah Jazz, but mostly he loved spending time with his family.
Erwin leaves behind his eternal companion, Cleone Wallis Davenport of St. George, Utah, and children: Douglas Erwin (Karlee) Davenport, Durell Jay (Jill) Davenport, Gina (Doug) Prisbrey, Diane (Mark) Wonnacott, and Cheryl (Donald) Staheli; his 29 grandchildren, and 26.5 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters; Emma Davenport Knight, Verna Rowley, his Brother Cyril Jay Davenport, and grandson Jace Christoffersen Davenport.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 2 at 11:00 a.m. at the LDS Church located at 550 East 700 South,St. George, Utah. Visitations will be held Friday evening June 1st, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, prior to services, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the same location. Interment will be in the St. George City Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Hughes Mortuary. Compassionate Service by the LDS 7th Ward.
