David was born in Haverhill, Massachusetts in 1947 to Donald and Phylis LaPointe. There he grew up with the same kids all through school, some becoming lifelong friends. We heard great stories about those years- playing sports, skipping school, getting into trouble, even blowing up the family barn!
After graduation David enlisted in the Air Force. He spent a year in Vietnam and Thailand during the Vietnam conflict. After the conclusion of his tour of duty in 1968 he was assigned to Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas Nevada. There he met and married Linda, his wife, with whom he celebrated over 55 years of marriage. They added a son, Michael and a daughter, Tracy to the family. He worked as a lineman for Central Telephone Company and retired from that company as a line supervisor. David counted many of his coworkers there as good friends also. Shortly after retirement David and Linda moved to St. George Utah.
David loved all sports. He played baseball, racquetball, over-the-line, bowling and pickleball. He was a huge fan of all Boston teams, the Celtics, the Bruins, the Patriots, and especially the Red Sox. Trips back East were always planned around scheduled Fenway games. He loved the outdoors, enjoying hunting, fishing, mountain biking, kayaking, hiking, outdoor photography, and riding side by sides. He loved to camp, in tents, in trailers, and in the family cabin they built in 1983.
In 2019 David and Linda left home in their small travel trailer and toured the country with their two small dogs. They visited 32 states, 21 National Parks and met many wonderful people. They were blessed with great weather and shared many great pictures with their family. Best trip ever!
David’s passion and his lasting legacy is his family. He was so proud of them all, from the youngest to the oldest. He knew the world would be a better place because of these amazing kids. David was a loving husband, terrific father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He leaves behind his wife Linda, son Michael and his wife Kimberly, daughter Tracy and her husband Chris Niskanen, grandson Brandon and his wife Mikayla, granddaughters Stephanie and her fiancé Dallin Nelsen, Kyla Webb and her husband Chris, Katelyn Niskanen, great grandsons Hayes LaPointe and Oliver Webb, Great granddaughter Penelope Webb, brother Donald LaPointe, Sister Michele Chase, nephew Don LaPointe, several nieces and many friends.
David was a remarkable man, touching the lives of many people. He was much loved and will be forever missed.
