Darrell LeRoy Wahlen, age 69, lost his battle with cancer on November 24, 2022 surrounded by loved ones in the comfort of his home.
Darrell was born August 28, 1953 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Jay and Betty Wahlen. After high school graduation Darrell served two years in the Colorado Denver Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He received a Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology from the University of Utah in 1979. While attending college he met and married the love of his life, Donna Wahlen. They were married for 45 years. Darrell joined the U.S. Navy in 1982, where he found his passion for flying and eventually achieving the rank of Commander. He continued his service in the U.S. Navy Reserves, and retired after completing 20 years of dedicated service. Darrell was also a Captain for American Airlines flying commercial planes for 28 years and retired in 2018.
Darrell was a dedicated member of his church and served in many callings. He helped many young men earn their Eagle Scout and volunteered countless hours to the Boy Scouts of America. He always put his family first, taking his wife and children on many adventures all over the world. His hobbies included woodworking, genealogy and spending time with his children and grandchildren. Darrell was always willing to serve those around him.
Darrell Wahlen is survived by his wife, , Donna Wahlen, of Cedar City, Utah; his five children: Alecia, Chris (Michelle Smith), Erin Dunton (Eric), Joshua (Alexandra Lemon), Jared (Coral); eight grandchildren; his mother, Betty Morse; brothers Dennis (Rhena) and Bobby Morse; and sisters DeeAnn Gilbert (Roger) and Stephanie Love.
A viewing will be held at the LDS Church at 37 N 4050 W, Cedar City, Utah on December 9, between 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm. A service will be held the following day at 10:00 am at the same location, followed by a burial at Cedar City Cemetery.
