Betty Monte Long

September 28, 1934 — November 15, 2024

St. George, UT

Betty “Monte” Long passed away on November 15, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Mom is survived by her three children: Scott, Terri and Stacy, 14 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.

Monte was born on September 28, 1934, in McAlister, New Mexico. She grew up in Redondo Beach, California, and eventually moved to Paradise, California where she met dad at Chico High School. Dad and mom were married in February of 1954 at the Spanish Mission in San Juan Capistrano.

Two years later, Scott arrived while Dad was in the U.S. Air Force at Scott AFB in Illinois. Mom and dad then moved to Portland, Oregon where dad finished his tour and Terri was born. In 1959, mom and dad began their career with IBM in San Jose where Stacy was born while dad was at IBM Technical School. Mom and dad moved with IBM to; Sacramento, then dad took Branch Manager roles in San Francisco, Oakland and Portland, Oregon.

In 1984, mom and dad moved to Tokyo, Japan where dad joined IBM’s World Trade organization, just a few years later becoming Country Manager of China. Mom and dad travelled the world in those years, travelling throughout the Far East, to India, Bora Bora and spent one vacation with a tribe of headhunters, always the adventurers. Mom maybe known as the only person to host an Easter Egg hunt on the Great Wall of China.

Mom and dad retired after 30 years with IBM. They built their dream home at Lake Almanor on the water with a great view of Mt. Lassen. Mom and dad loved to motorhome and through their travels visited all 50 states. They loved tennis and mom was a known terror on the courts. Mom eventually moved onto Pickleball and excelled there as well. She was the original athlete in the family, and everything flowed from her.

Mom will forever be remembered while we were growing up as the one with the sense of humor that kept us all in stiches. While dad was the “True North” for the family, mom was always the “Heart and Soul”, inseparable for over 56 years. The two were each other’s “Forever Person”. Mom and dad will forever be missed by their kids, grandkids, great grandkids, family and friends.

The family would like to thank the staff from Beehive Homes and Dixie Hospice. The care you provided was gentle and loving. The family is so grateful that she was under your care.
