Betty Florence Herold Egbert passed away peacefully in her home on December 4th, 2024. She was born in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, on July 14, 1932, to David Milton Herold and Mary Elizabeth Yuhas. She married Darrell Howard Egbert on July 2, 1955, and they were later sealed in the Los Angeles, California Temple on May 26, 1967.
Betty was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in various callings, as well as being a temple worker in the San Diego Temple for many years.
When Betty was very young her family moved to Savannah, Georgia. She often reminisced how much she loved living in the beautiful South and spending time at the beach. In her late teens, Betty was crowned Miss Savannah, Georgia. A few years later she met her future husband, Darrell, who was in the Air Force, on a one-week furlough in Savannah. They had a whirlwind romance and courtship that lasted a lifetime. Because of Darrell’s service in the Air Force, they lived in many different places in the United States and Internationally where they experienced numerous adventures together.
Betty enjoyed shopping and worked in retail sales for much of her adult life. She also loved oil painting and had several of her lovely paintings displayed in her home as well as the homes of friends and family.
Betty was a loyal friend to many, and her wit and warmth will be missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Darrell Howard, and her mother, Mary Elizabeth, and father, David Milton. She is survived by her sister, Doris Davis, of Hoover, Alabama, sisters-in law, Kaye Galli, Cheryl Galli, and Kelli Titus, as well as eighteen nieces and nephews, and, also, great nieces and nephews.
The family gives special thanks to the Ferraro family; Heather, who has been like a daughter to Betty and helped and cared for her for the past twenty years, as well as Sandy and Jenny, who have all taken loving care of her for the past few years as her health declined. Also, special thanks to Glenn and Elisabeth Bingham for their friendship, care, and concern for Betty for many years.
In addition, we’d like to thank Renew Hospice and Betty’s nurses and CNA’s for their kind care: Michelle, Jennifer, Lisa, and Jill.
