Washington, UT- Barbara Joan Biggs, 91, passed away Wednesday, June 26th. Barbara was born August 2, 1932 in Omaha, NE to Lloyd and Goldie (Larsen) Hines. She married Robert Charles Biggs on October 26th, 1950 in Omaha, NE.
Barbara was raised in Omaha, NE where according to her, she had to walk in the snow uphill both ways to school in her one room schoolhouse, and then went on to Benson High School, where she graduated at 16 years old. Not long after that she met, if she were to tell you, the most perfect man in Robert Charles Biggs, he went to a rival high school and played basketball, and one night through acquaintances they began dating. Not long after meeting they were married on October 26, 1950 in Omaha, NE. They were married for 52 years, before Bob passed away from Pancreatic Cancer, had he not they still would have been holding hands and bickering until her last breath. Bob and Barbara had 3 children, Robert Jr., James (Jim), & Carol. Due to Bob’s job with Boeing they moved around often and landed in states like Utah, Washington, Kansas, Missouri, and California. Although, they lived in many states most of their early lives were spent in Santa Maria, CA. She went to work after the children were all in school as a bookkeeper and did that work on and off until retirement. Barbara and Bob were both able to retire early, so they sold the house bought a motorhome and traveled the United States, only because Bob refused to leave the country. They were always proudly mentioning how they visited every single state in the US, what an accomplishment. When they were finished with their traveling they ended up spending their later years in St. George, UT. Where they wasted time doing yard work, keeping up a huge garden, and of course bickering like they always did. After she lost Bob, Barbara found joy in volunteering in numerous places. She volunteered at Dixie Regional Emergency Room for 10 years, she was Volunteer of the Year, and she loved every minute of helping people out. She also volunteered at Tuacahn, Senior Games, and the Five Counties Association, and with all that she still found time to travel. She took her traveling international, Bob wasn’t here to stop her, and she visited Africa, China, Europe, South America, and Australia. Barbara loved her traveling and talking about all she had seen, and we all loved hearing her stories. Bob and Barbara both spent many hours following their grandchildren in their various activities, and Barbara continued this and was able to follow her Great Grandchildren in their activities, from sports to horseshows, she loved it all.
Barbara is survived by James(Jim) & Laura Biggs, Santa Maria, CA, Carol Thorpe, St. George, UT, and Laura Biggs, Clovis, CA, and her grandchildren Daniel Thorpe, Crissy Morris, Bobby Biggs, Brian Biggs, Lori Jones, and Jennifer Biggs. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Charles Biggs, her son Robert Charles Biggs Jr, and son in law Danny Thorpe.
Memorial services will be arranged at another time.
